Salut, I thought since so many WHV Frenchies are arriving in Melbourne at the moment, that it might be useful to give a little advice about Backpackers….

My advice would be to have a good look at them/inspect before you agree to stay there, as prices do vary quite a lot even for dormitory rooms (normalement entre $15-$30 p.n.) and a friend had a bad experience in one (actually 2) of the Melbourne ones last week, which were advertised as nice and clean, but were actually, in his words ‘sale, comme une usine, a eviter! »

I don’t want to tarnish any Backpacker or budget pub’s reputation by saying which 2 they were, and I’m sure most of the backpackers in Melbourne are quite ok, so I’ll just recommend to ‘inspect first’ to avoid disappointment.

Bonne chance to all the new arrivals in Melbourne!

    Kate

    PS
If you’re looking for somewhere great for coffee, I recommend Waffle On Cafe in Degraves St (right outside Flinders St Station), where you’ll run into plenty of other Frenchies, as the owner is from Montpelier & so is the assistant. Warning: Waffles are addictive 😆 which is why I usually end up visiting Melbourne every few weeks now….
