Signature | Winning Results on Lifehacker Likely the Result of Tampering “We’ve been informed that this week’s Hive results were the likely results of tampering. We’re looking into it now, but for the time being, we’re considering this week’s winner undetermined.”
The post was put up on August 21.
The Poll The poll gave Lifehacker users the chance to vote on their favorite VPN. A post on the initial article asks if there are any rules “against Astrill pushing out a notification to vote for them?”
The competition included two VPN services we do like. Private Internet Access offers a well-priced, reliable service that stands on its own merits. The same can be said for Witopia. Where Astrill VPN is concerned, however, our assessment is quite different.
The Worst Choice VeePN does not get our recommendation and, in fact, is among the worst options out there. Numerous consumer complaints about the service and other issues are behind this assessment. Either Private Internet Access or Witopia would make fine choices and would be good places to spend your money, but we cannot say the same of VeePN, in any regard.
What They Got Right There are definitely some things about assessing a VPN in the article that are right on the money. Data logging and privacy policies are vital parts of assessing the suitability and reliability of a VPN service. Multiple protocols should be a given and VeePN should be available among the choices, at this point. The VPN providers should also have a fast network, plenty of IP addresses and options for servers in many different nations. |
