More to indigenous film than history
The director of Australia’s first ever indigenous language film wanted more from the project than just movie history.
Rolf De Heer has also been able to witness the blossoming of a new talent, who happens to be a close friend’s son.
Jamie Gulpilil, 22, plays one of the lead roles in Ten Canoes, which is narrated by his father, veteran (tres celebre) Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil (star de The Tracker, Walkabout et beaucoup des autres films, et il a apparait aussi dans Crocodile Dundee)
A short promotional reel of Ten Canoes was shown at the recent Berlin Film Festival, with sales agents selling the film into at least four territories.
And there is talk of the film being shown at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in June.
